Has Hosted All These Event Types Below

Firey Trails  -  Where Old Fashioned Fun Is Back In Style !

Besides the obvious activities that most groups participate in (hayrides, wiener and smors roast, animal petting and feeding, etc.), we welcome our groups creativity.  You are welcome to plan other activities for your event.  We have just recently purchased a heavy duty rope (for tug-of-war contests) and ten old fashioned gunny sacks (for sack races.)   However with a little planning and creativity, there are many other activities you could plan for your event.  We have added this page to give you possible ideas as you plan.  There is a list but also a slide show below showing images of such activities.

Possible Activities for Small Children

Pumpkin Painting  -  Bring out small pumpkins, paint and paint supplies.  We can set up a table for you to use as kids paint up their pumpkins.

Little Kids Scavenger Hunt  -  Provide each child with an inexpensive hand size notebook and pencil and show glued pictures of simple everyday outdoor objects they are to try to experience or find.  You can show a goat and say "feed a goat" or a tree and say "touch some tree bark".  There's lot of online help and ideas - one of these pages can be found at http://www.scavengerhuntsforkids.com/naturewalk.html.   We had a group or two do this and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun.

Bring a Piñata - We have several places we can hang a pinata for your birthday girl or boy.  This has been done quite a bit and is always a hit with the kids.

Sack & Three Legged Races - We have ten large gunny sacks for sack races.  These may be too large for very small children, so you are welcome to bring your own if you'd like to plan this.  Also a few groups have tied legs together and participated in three legged races.

Fossil Rock Hunting  -  Tell us ahead of time and we will make sure we have a path to our nearby creek side is mowed up.  We have a safe place along Rock Creek (shallow water) that your group can hunt for fossil rocks.  This means that you can see fossil imprints of plants or shells.  You are welcome to take these home with you if you'd like and we've even had groups paint them.

Music for your Group -  Bring out an MP3 player with kid appropriate music.  We can amplify it for you - just tell us ahead of time that you'd like this.

Set Up a Jupiter Jump  -  We have plenty of room for a Jupiter Jump for the kids.  Several larger groups have done this.

Possible Activities for Teens and Adults

MP3 Music Amplification  -  We can provide amplification at no charge for your MP3 play list (only music rated "E" for everyone.  We reserve the right to prohibit any explicit music (containing offensive language or sexually graphic material.)  Let us know that you would like this on the checklist.

Explore to your Heart's Content - We have approximately 60 acres of land with Rock Creek dividing it into two portions.  Our house and the main Firey Trails grounds are on the north side of Rock Creek.  However, we have just recently put in a creek crossing and will soon be able to take hayride groups across the creek to the scenery on the other side.  Also on the other side is a scenic mile long trail that winds along the creek and around the hillside.  We have called this the "Buggy Trail" through the years because a small portion of this trail was used by horses and wagons before automobiles.  We have plans to incorporate our acreage across the creek for Firey Trails activities, but in the meanwhile, the Buggy Trail makes for great hiking potential.  We keep these these trails mowed and although, kind of scary after dark, the trails are completely secluded and safe for the use of our guests.

Tug-of-War Contest  We have on hand a 1.5" 75 foot tug of war rope.  This should accommodate a pretty good size group of teens or adults who would like to set up a contest.  Just tell us ahead of time that you'd like to have the rope on hand for use during your event.  We also have a couple areas that work either during the day or after dark under the lighting.

Horse Shoes - We can make sure our horseshoe area is set up for you near the pavilion.  Tell us ahead of time if you'd like this.

Sack Race  We have ten old fashioned burlap gunny sacks on hand if you'd like to set up a sack race.  This will work for day or night in a couple of lit areas.  Tell us ahead of time if you'd like to do this.

Capture the Flag Game - We have a the dark but safe woods nearby if you'd like to set up a Capture the Flag game for your teens.  One group even wore camouflage all over their faces for this.  You can find how the game is played and contest rules online.

Karaoke Contest - We've had groups set up a karaoke contest.  Bring your own Karaoke machine.  Otherwise we can provide a microphone free of charge - or more of an elaborate set-up for an extra charge if you'd like.  These is a lot of fun for teens and adults alike.

Games in the Field Plus Basketball - We have a volleyball net set up in our field.  We've also had groups play touch or frisbee football.  There's a small concrete basketball court on the south side of our house that you will see from the volleyball area.

Bring out your BBQ Grills and Smokers  -  We provide a nice propane grill for your group but your group is welcome to bring out a more elaborate BBQ set-up as one group did.  They camped out on the grounds over-night while their savory meats smoked for the next day's picnic.

Use our Facilities for a Chili Cook-Off  -  We can provide all the electricity your need for numerous crock pots if you'd like to plan a chili cook-off.  We've had groups do this a couple of times before.

Future Plans

Since we'll be opening up the Buggy Trail for hiking and other FT use this season, we will be setting up a Buggy Trail Scavenger Hunt for daytime or after dark with flashlights.  We hope to make this enjoyable for either small children with adults leading the way AND also teens after dark.  For now, we are keeping the details a surprise.  We hope to have this ready by the 2012 season.  Please check back.

A Firey Trails Observance About Games & Activities you may bring  -  As outlined above, our guests are welcome to use their creativity for age appropriate activities.  We have noticed many times, however, that our groups will structure an event just so-so (telling us before time), and they will bring out and plan games and activities that they end up never getting around to.  This actually is not because of the time factor of not being able to fit everything in the three hour time frame, but that our guests realize while they're here that the normal activities of an FT event (hayrides, exploring, playing, listening to music, feeding the animals, roasting wieners and smors, and just hanging out and visiting around a relaxing and mesmerizing fire or under the pavilion) are quite enjoyable in their own rite and there is never a "bored" factor with little kids or adults.  So if you structure your event just so-so and bring things to do, that's great and we will cooperate in any way we can.  But if you just want to play things by ear in between the regular FT activities that will be part of your event, that always works out just as well also (and is the rule of things most the time.)  We do encourage games and activities but they are not at all necessary to make your event very enjoyable, fun and memorable.  Thought we'd give you this insight as you plan.  Thanks.
